Upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will begin this memorable expedition up the eastern route of Uganda with Jinja as your destination for this day. En route, you will go through Mabira Forest, the largest natural forest in central Uganda.
Your day’s first safari activity will be visiting the source of the Nile in Jinja. You’ll spot where the Nile waters start to flow out of Lake Victoria while taking a boat ride along the waters of the Nile River.
We will stay the night nearby in Jinja.
After breakfast, proceed with your safari to Mbale to explore Mount Elgon and hike to Sipi Falls. Enjoy the beauty of the scenery as you watch the flow of the falls. You will also see fauna and different floral species including Elgonensis lobelia and dotted clusters of peculiar groundsels.
We’ll stay in Mbale tonight.
The third day of this Safari will be spent traversing the vast plains and semi-arid savannah of northeastern Uganda in order to reach Kidepo Valley National Park. Observing that this is quite the journey, you will reach the park in the evening and spend your night at Kidepo Savanna Lodge.
Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the wildest and most spectacular reserves in Africa with a landscape of small hills known as inselbergs and rocky outcrops. The temperatures in Kidepo are usually high, but it will certainly give you a good taste of adventure! While in Kidepo, you will get stunning panoramic views of the Narus River Valley and wildlife such as elephants, herds of buffaloes, jackals, jackson’s hartebeests, and klipspringers among others.
The park is renowned for its exceptional variety of birds of prey. While in there, it is likely you will spot ostriches, kori bustards, pygmy falcons, verreaux’s eagles, Egyptian vultures, abyssinian ground Hornbills, and many others.
This day will start with your morning game drive to Kanangorok hot spring area. It is intended that you split the park in two parts so that you might get better chances of encountering animals like the hunting dog, bat-eared fox, cheetahs, striped hyenas, and other animals endemic to Kidepo National Park.
After the game drive, you will have a cultural interaction with Karamajong people at Karenna and Kapedo. You will meet the local elders and have an opportunity to interact with them as they show you the kraals, the grinding stones, and many more interesting items they use in their daily life.
You will travel from Kidepo Valley on this day and head south to Murchison Falls National Park. You will start in the morning and transfer to Gulu-Uganda’s biggest town in the North.
You will continue the drive through the flat scenic landscape with local villages while enjoying the Ugandan countryside. You will arrive at Murchison Falls National Game Park in the afternoon and check in at your lodge.
Murchison Falls is Uganda’s largest national park and is home to over 400 bird species. It is also endowed with several mammal species with four members of the big five: lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes. Other species include bushbucks, Uganda kob, waterbucks, warthogs, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, hyenas, hippos, and crocodiles among other resident creatures.
You begin your exploration of the park with a game drive in the northern circuit of the park. There you will encounter beautiful rolling plains where you may view lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffaloes, elephants, bushbuck, spotted hyenas, wild cats, and leopards as well as many other mammals. For the bird watchers, they may spot the secretary bird, black chested snake eagle, tawny and marshal eagles, carmine and swallow tailed bee-eaters, and more.
In the afternoon, you will go for a boat trip to the bottom of Murchison Falls where you will view the Nile as it thunders through a small 7-meter gap down to the delta. This experience is breathtaking and is not to be missed! The banks of the Nile are home to many species. You may see huge Nile crocodiles, hippos and other wildlife that may come down to drink from this mighty river. The birds flying nearby may include the pre-historic shoebill, saddle-billed stork, and many other birds.
Tonight, you will check in to a different lodge for the overnight stay.
The day will begin with a visit to the top of Murchison Falls. While at the top, you will experience the Nile as it is pushed through a small gap of rocks with a lot of force. It must be said the sight of the power of the rushing water is impressive.
You will then drive out of the park to the town of Masindi for lunch en route to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for your chance to encounter the white Rhinos. After this activity, you will drive back to Kampala and Entebbe International Airport.
